Trash Collection Information

Trash Collection in Broad Run Oaks is included in the HOA fees

As of September 1, 2008 the provider of this service will be 
American Disposal Services

The following items are outlined in our contract as the services that American will provide to Broad Run Oaks. 
NOTE: The biggest change to the old schedule is the recycling day.

  • Collect trash from curbsides two (2) times per week--Mondays and Thursdays

    • Collect all trash that is properly secured in plastic bags, standard trash cans, or wheeled carts that are placed at the curbside by 5:00 p.m.  

    • Trash bags or containers shall not exceed fifty (50) pounds of weight per bag or container

    • Collect and remove all debris resulting from broken trash bags and/or over-filled containers

  • Collect all recyclables from curbside one (1) time per week--Mondays

    • Recyclables must be separated from other household trash

    • It is helpful to bundle newspapers and magazines in paper grocery bags or tie them with heavy twine

    • Glass, plastic #1 and #2, aluminum, and ferrous metal food cans should be rinsed and placed in the provided recycling bin -- each resident will be provided one (1) recycling bin

  • Collect yard debris (not including mulch)

    • Yard debris may be mixed with trash ONLY during the months of January, February, and March

    • At other times, yard debris must be placed, unaccompanied, in appropriate containers or, separately, in biodegradable bags

  • Collect Christmas trees

    • Christmas trees shall be collected during the first two weeks of the month of January

    • American will notify (in writing) the Association of the specific collection days during the month of December

    • Trees must be placed at the curb prior to 5:00 a.m. on the designated collection days

    • All tinsel and ornaments must be removed from the tree

    • Trees should not be placed in bags

  • Collect Brush

    • Brush shall ONLY be collected on Thursdays

    • Brush shall be cut in four-foot lengths, with limbs no larger than three (3) inches in diameter

    • Brush shall be tied in bundles no larger than two (2) feet in diameter and placed at the curb

    • Yard debris and brush shall be placed, in separate containers or biodegradable bags, at the curb on trash collection days

    • Containers shall be secured so as not to blow away

  • Collect packing boxes and cartons placed at the curb for removal

  • Provide 'Special Collection' Services

    • This service shall be performed BY APPOINTMENT ONLY on Thursdays

    • Homeowners and/or residents must arrange appointments with American Disposal Service, 703-368-0500 

    • Collect furniture and other large, non-metal household items, which may be placed on the curb for pick-up at no extra charge, provided the volume of waste does not exceed two (2) cubic yards

    • The owner and/or resident of homes from which white good (e.g., appliances) refuse originates shall be charged for this service

    • Homeowners and/or residents will contact American directly for the collection and cost associated with the collection of white goods in conjunction with the arrangement of a service appointment

  • Provide removal of trash and recyclables on all holidays that fall on a regularly scheduled pickup day 

    • EXCEPTIONS to this policy include: Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, New Year's Day, and the Fourth of July, as well as any day on which local landfills are closed

    • When a designated pickup day falls on one of the above days, uncollected trash or recyclables shall be removed on the next regularly scheduled pickup day

  • NOTE:  American may elect not to remove waste from containers that weigh more than thirty-five (35) pounds

Residents are reminded that they can take excess trash to one of the Prince William County facilities.
